Vietnam Bradley Lalonde
Bradley C. Lalonde is a seasoned American private equity investor and financial strategist with nearly five decades of experience in banking, investment, and business development across emerging markets. Since relocating to Vietnam in 1994, he has been recognized as a pioneer in modernizing the country’s financial sector and advancing U.S.–Vietnam economic relations.
Mr. Lalonde first came to Vietnam as the founding CEO of Citibank Vietnam, where he established the bank’s operations in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City—marking one of the earliest entries of a global financial institution into post–Đổi Mới Vietnam. He was also a founding member and the first Chairman of AmCham Hanoi, playing a key role in facilitating bilateral trade, and testified before the U.S. Congress in support of normalizing economic ties between the two countries.
In 2003, he co-founded Vietnam Partners LLC (VPLLC) in Delaware, U.S., with James W. Lewis, former Managing Director at Morgan Stanley. Headquartered in Manhattan, New York, VPLLC is a private investment and financial advisory firm dedicated to fostering strategic investment flows between the U.S. and Vietnam. As Chairman, Mr. Lalonde led numerous investments in finance, technology, sustainable manufacturing, and food processing.
Among its earliest and most notable deals, VPLLC became the first foreign investor in Vietnam’s domestic securities industry by acquiring a 10% stake in Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) in 2005. At the time, SSI was an emerging player in a nascent market; it later grew into Vietnam’s largest securities firm. Vietnam Partners’ early investment delivered a return of more than 40x upon exit, setting a benchmark for successful foreign direct investment in Vietnam’s capital markets.
In 2006, VPLLC partnered with BIDV to establish BVIM (BIDV – Vietnam Partners Investment Management)—the first fund management company in Vietnam operated by a foreign partner, licensed under No. 01/GP–QLDT. As Chief Investment Officer, Mr. Lalonde oversaw the deployment of over USD 150 million into high-growth Vietnamese companies such as FPT Software, Minh Phu Seafood, Vinh Hoan, Traphaco, Vinasun and Eximbank.
In parallel with his investment work, Mr. Lalonde is the Founder and President of the VP Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation (VPCEI), created in partnership with the University of Michigan and the William Davidson Institute. Through its Mini-MBA programs focused on ESG, entrepreneurship, and venture development, VPCEI aims to train 10,000 business leaders and support at least 100 sustainable startups in Vietnam by 2030.
He currently serves as Chairman of Vietnam Partners LLC, Board Director of Northann Corp (NYSE American: NCL), and Strategic Advisor to organizations such as Amdeya Group, Rikkeisoft and Mandala Capital, which focus on ESG finance and sustainable agriculture across Asia. Mr. Lalonde holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan and an M.A. in Development Economics from Columbia University.
With global vision, disciplined investment expertise, and deep local commitment, Bradley C. Lalonde is widely regarded as one of the foundational architects of Vietnam’s sustainable investment ecosystem and its international economic integration over the past three decades.
